General Description

The SBC8242 is a half-size IBMTM PC AT486 Single Board Computer with PCI VGA flat panel/CRT controller. The onboard 3.3V/5V switch can provide an alternative to accommodate various Intel microprocessors, AMD 486SX/DX/DX2/DX4 and 5x86 running at 33/40/50/66/80/100MHz.

The SBC8242 also comes with CHIPS 65550 VGA adapter with 32 bit PCI local bus video controllers. Its 1MB RAM provides resolution of 1024´768 @ 256 colors for CRT and up to 1024 ´768 for flat panel (Mono LCD, STN, TFT, EL) displays.

The 128KB second level cache memory (L1 cache is determinant by CPU cache) and the onboard 2x72-pin SIMM socket supporting 1MB to 64MB provide the flexibility to configure your system. It is also suitable for multiple data processing applications.

The SBC8242 includes an Enhanced IDE controller that supports modes 3 and 4 hard disks and enables data transfer rates in excess of 11 MB/second. The high-speed (16C550 UARTs) serial ports can be configured as RS232 or RS422/485. The 16-level watchdog timer can automatically reset the CPU or generate an interrupt to make sure the system is working properly.

The PC/104 of embedded system architecture is also supported on the SBC8242 via its industry standard PC/104 expansion bus.
